Our Story

Our philosphy: "ett vildare liv" is a life lived in tune with nature

In Sweden where we live, respect for nature is deeply embedded in its culture and way of living.  “Vildare” means “wilder” in Swedish, and "ett vildare liv" is literally a "wilder life," which we interpret to mean a life that is in tune with nature. And that’s exactly our mission - to encourage living that is consciously connected to the wild world around us.  We aim to foster a respect and connection to nature on an everyday basis.

We design bags & accessories in fun original prints inspired by the wildness in our world.  Our products are made from premium natural and animal-free materials that can withstand daily use.   We manufacture in small batches to eliminate waste and aim to make thoughtful design choices to ensure our products are as sustainable as possible.

The idea was born in 2018, after years of being frustrated by spending money on bags that didn’t hold up to either dirt or wear and tear.

We searched high and low for cool and chic bags that were sustainably made from natural vegan materials, and found the options limited:  either they were made primarily out of synthetics or if they were natural materials, they tended to be quite plain.

So we decided to make our own, and spent a year in research and design, testing different natural materials until we found the best ones that provided perfect mix of style and durability. We settled on a mix of GOTS certified organic cotton canvas and leather made from cork trees, as they had the perfect mix of quality and luxury, while being sustainable. Perfect to get you to wherever you want to go, in style, with the kind of durability that can hold up to daily wear and tear.

We worked hard to build a sustainable company from the ground up, which meant we took a lot of time and care with every little detail. That is why our fabrics are printed in an EU certified print house that ensures circular and sustainable printing, why we ship our bags in special recycled and reusable envelopes via the Repack program, and why we use special seed paper for our tags which can be planted to grow flowers, rather than thrown in the the trash.

And since we care deeply about preserving the environment and wildlife for future generations, we donate a portion from each bag sale to conservation organizations such as Rainforest Trust and Panthera.org. See vildare.com/giving for more information.
